Kate Middleton marked her 39th birthday by paying a special tribute to healthcare workers on the frontlines battling the coronavirus pandemic.

In a message posted on the official Instagram account for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, she noted "birthdays have been very different in recent months.

"Our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time."

The message was accompanied by a photograph of Kate wearing a face mask and waving. The picture was taken when she and William toured the country in December to thank key workers in the fight against COVID-19.
