Authorities in Abu Dhabi have outlined the regulations for short-term car rental services.
The latest rules are applicable to the services provided by car rental apps that allow customers to rent a vehicle by the hour or even the minute.
Cars can be rented out only within the 'authorised areas' for a maximum of six hours per day, while the operating entities must get prior approvals from the Department of Economic Development and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).
The driver who rents the car must carry a recognised driving license, register in the smart application of the operating entity and adhere to the emirate's traffic laws.
The vehicle must only be driven by the registered user.
The ITC has specified the clauses, provisions, conditions and the schedule of violations on its website.
