Dubai renames street after historic landmark

Dubai has renamed Al Faghi Street in Al Khawaneej to Sheikh Zayed Farm Street, in recognition of its historic role in the UAE’s Union story.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Dubai Road Naming Committee, announced the change to highlight the national significance of Sheikh Zayed Farm.

The site has already been designated as the UAE’s third Union landmark, alongside Union House and Arqoob Al Sedira, following a declaration by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Zayed Farm played an important role in the lead-up to the formation of the UAE.

In March 1971, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan spent nearly two weeks there, holding key meetings with the Rulers of the emirates that helped pave the way for the signing of the Union Agreement and Constitution later that year.

Authorities say the renaming reflects Dubai’s ongoing efforts to preserve and highlight national heritage sites, while linking the city’s road network to landmarks that represent the UAE’s founding journey.
