High level talks on bilateral ties and the Syrian crisis have been taking place between the UAE and Russia. The issues came up for discussion during a phone call between His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the national news agency WAM, they also touched on current counter-terrorism efforts and the need for the international community to jointly confront extremist groups. Putin applauded the UAE's efforts in combating terrorism and maintaining peace in the region.
