His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched a new foundation to address what he calls the "massive challenges" facing the Arab region. The new body, called "Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives", is an umbrella for 28 existing organisations already working on some 1,400 human development programmes. Officials say the foundation will spend at least AED 1 billion per year over the next decade. ARN’s Richard Dean is at the launch event.
