Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, has discussed strengthening cultural ties with Māori Queen Ngā Wai Hono i te Pō of New Zealand during her visit to Dubai.

Sharing on her social media platform, Sheikha Latifa said the discussions focused on the shared vales between the two nations towards preserving heritage, inspiring creativity and fostering community development.

The talks also highlighted boosting collaboration between the UAE and the Māori community following the recent Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with New Zealand that came into force on August 28.

The agreement includes a dedicated cooperation chapter for Māori and other indigenous peoples, as well as an exception clause to protect obligations under New Zealand’s founding partnership document, the Treaty of Waitangi.

The Māori Queen also met with Minister of Foreign Trade Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi  to reveal the first test pilot scheme aiming to enhance indigenous trade and enterprise.

The Queen outlined her intended focus to ensure that the Māori economy continues to grow and thrive with the support and cooperation of the UAE.
