UAE President, Ethiopian PM discuss boosting economic, development ties

WAM

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, who is on a working visit to the UAE.

The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade and development sectors, and explored opportunities to advance ties in line with the priorities and mutual interests of both countries.

Their talks also addressed developments in the Middle East amid escalating military actions and their serious implications for regional and international security and stability.

During the meeting, Abiy Ahmed condemned what he described as blatant Iranian attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region, saying they violate state sovereignty and international law.

He also affirmed Ethiopia’s solidarity with the UAE in measures it takes to safeguard its security, territorial integrity and the safety of its people.

Sheikh Mohamed thanked the Ethiopian leader for his country’s supportive stance.

Both sides stressed the need for an immediate halt to the escalation and called for dialogue and diplomatic solutions to resolve regional issues and preserve security and stability.

His Highness also conveyed his condolences to Abiy Ahmed and the Ethiopian people over the victims of floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in southern Ethiopia, and reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity.
