Universities in the UAE will be allowed a phased return to on-campus learning from Monday for some academic programmes and examinations under strict safety guidelines outlined by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Safety measures will include approved evacuation plans and health and safety protocols during emergencies, as well clear communication guidelines to students and staff.

In a statement sent to ARN News Centre, a spokesperson from the ministry confirmed that the "a circular has been issued to higher education institutions outlining the phased and gradual resumption of on-campus learning".

The universities will be allowed to offer "a flexible and context-specific approach" based on "its own procedures, and level of readiness".

"The health, safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff remain the top priority, and institutions are expected to maintain and monitor robust safety measures," the statement added.

Each university will be allowed the transition based on its own level of readiness, keeping the safety of the students, faculty, and staff as its top priority.

The on-campus learning will start with priority programmes that require clinical training, laboratory work or practical, field-based learning, with 14 majors listed in the circular, as well as examinations.

Meanwhile, teaching or training in open areas will not be permitted.
