UAE urges UN to set time-bound roadmap to end Israeli occupation

Wam

The UAE has urged the UN Security Council to set a clear time-bound roadmap to end Israeli occupation in Gaza.

In a statement made during the Security Council briefing on Thursday, the UAE’s permanent representative to the UN, Mohamed Abushahab, said the adoption of 12-month time frame outlined during the General Assembly resolution in September 2024 must be enforced.

"We need clear implementation mechanisms to advance this objective," the statement added.

Abushahab also stressed the need to mobilise political will to advance the two-state solution alongside efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

He took the opportunity to secure full UN membership for the State of Palestine. "We urge all countries that have not done so to recognize the State of Palestine, as this is an important step in advancing the peace process," the statement read.
