Dubai launches special unit to catch e-scooter, e-bike violators

RTA

Authorities in Dubai have launched a special patrol unit to monitor the use of e-scooters, e-bikes and bicycles in the city from May 1.

The Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit is a joint initiative by Dubai Police and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The officers will be in charge of monitoring cycling tracks, main roads and soft mobility zones, especially in  Jumeirah Beach Track, Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai Water Canal, Business Bay and Dubai Marina, as well as Al Mankhool, Al Karama, Al Hamriya, Al Raffa and Al Muraqqabat.

They will check if riders are using designated tracks, wearing helmets and protective gear, adhering to speed limits and issue fines to violators.

The officers will also impound bikes if people are caught riding recklessly or tandem riding on e-scooters.

"The unit will support efforts to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety," said Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police.
